Note-taking

The Art of Taking Good Notes

• First you will need a 3-subject spiral notebook. Our notebook will house our notes for Literary Terms, Notes, and Vocabulary. • As we practice taking notes, you will be provided a skeleton outline to work from. As the year goes on though, you will be expected to      create your own outlines. Remember to try and group your ideas. The key to good note-taking is to make your study review easier. • Your notes do not need to be written in complete sentences; you may shorten sentences and create phrases. • Use abbreviations whenever possible. Develop your own form of shorthand similar to text messaging. • Don’t worry about spelling or punctuation while taking notes; it is more important to get your thoughts down on paper. As we go over our notes throughout a unit, feel free to make changes to your own notes. You may use post-its to add emphasis or draw attention to key points. Outlining Directions Main points and subpoints
